Who will clear my shipment with Customs in Canada?
In order to obtain clearance for your shipment into Canada, you will need to go to your closest customs office in Canada to meet with the Canadian Border Services Agency. It is not possible to use a customs clearing agent.
How long will it take to move my belongings to Canada?
Clearance of your move into Canada takes approximately 5 to 7 working days for an FCL (Full Container Load e.g. not a shared container), and 7 to 10 working days for a GRP (Groupage or shared container load) once the shipping container has been unloaded from the vessel.
Can I bring my car to Canada?
Used cars other than current models are generally prohibited from importation. Please let us know and we will give you further advice if you are planning to move your car(s) to Canada.
Will I have to pay duties on my goods in Canada?
If you are a new immigrant to Canada, you are allowed to import your own household goods free of duty as long as you have owned and used them abroad. However, there will be duties payable on any brand new appliances and furniture. If you are a Canadian citizen, you may import your goods in duty-free.
Can I take food to Canada?
It is not recommended you take any food to Canada, in particular any meat products.
Can I take alcohol to Canada?
It is possible to take alcohol to Canada; however you will have to pay duty and tax.
Can I take firearms to Canada?
It is possible to take firearms to Canada but you must check with the firearms centre in Ottawa first. This is because before you ship your firearms, you must obtain an import-export licence.
