Packing for Removals to Germany

If you are moving to Germany permanently, your car will normally need to be re-registered with the local vehicle registration office (Kfz-Zulassungsstelle). You will usually need your vehicle documents, proof of ownership, proof of German insurance, your residence registration and a European Certificate of Conformity. Living in Germany: What to Know Before You Move

Ireland and Germany are both EU Member States, so moving household goods between them is simpler than moving outside the European Union.

Registering your address: everyone moving to Germany must register their new address (Anmeldung) at the local residents’ registration office, usually within two weeks of moving in. Bring your passport and the confirmation from your landlord (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung).

Visas and residence: Irish and other EU or EEA citizens do not need a visa or residence permit to live, work or study in Germany. Non-EU citizens, including British citizens, generally need a visa or residence permit for stays longer than 90 days. Common routes include:

Can I pack my own things?
